They say that records are made to be broken, and in regards to Columbus North volleyball, that certainly has been the case this season.

Two Bull Dog seniors have combined to break four of the five major statistical records for their careers at North. Karen Dutro has the record for kills and blocks, and Morgan Osborn has set the standard for digs and aces.

“It’s great to be able to do it at a place with so many amazing teammates and coaches that I love so much, and to be able to break it in a season where I feel like we have come together as a team and are playing super well, it means a lot,” Dutro said. “It’s been great working with my team and my coaches, so I’m grateful for that.”

A 6-foot-1 middle hitter, Dutro broke records that hadn’t been around for long. Kennedy Horn, who now is a freshman on the Seton Hall team, held the records with 775 kills and 304 blocks.

Through Thursday night’s game, Dutro now has 1,035 kills and 451 blocks.

“When I was 11 years old, I went to my club coach saying I was going to start four years varsity, and I was going to break records,” Dutro said. “I guess it’s kind of always been in my mind, but I didn’t know if I ever really thought that it was achievable.”

Osborn, a 5-foot-0 libero, played setter her freshman year at Brown County, where her mom, Jessica Robertson was the coach. Since arriving at North as a sophomore, she has 1,330 digs and 157 aces.

Maddy Sebahar, a 2019 graduate, held the digs record with 1,051, while 2015 grad Karen Wildemann had the aces record with 97.

Osborn actually has a total of 1,561 career digs, counting the ones from her freshman year at Brown County. She recorded her 200th career ace in Thursday’s win against Greenwood.

“It was my goal,” Osborn said. “I was very determined to get it. I had moments where I was like, ‘I don’t think it will happen,’ but there were also a bunch of moments where I was like, ‘This is my time. I’m going to get this.”

Dutro and Osborn were recognized prior to Wednesday’s four-set loss to Class 4A No. 10 Floyd Central.

“It was pretty cool,” Osborn said. “It was a fun experience seeing my teammates all cheer for me. I’m so happy to see that for not just me, but also Karen is doing really good things here at North.”
