Alek Devidze // Columbus North freshman tennis player

Devidze won his sectional matches against Columbus East and Greensburg in straight sets to lead the Bull Dogs to 5-0 team victories and a sectional championship.

His performance last week: “It was pretty good. I definitely think there’s going to be a big step up in competition, so I need to step up my game.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just stretch, get on the court half-hour to an hour early and just warm myself up.”

Favorite drink: “Dr. Pepper”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite class: “AP World History”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana Pacers”

Favorite athlete: “Roger Federer”

Role model: “Roger Federer”

Best advice: “Don’t give up on yourself if there’s still time left. Don’t give up on a match. Just keep going.’’

Athletics goal: “To play college tennis and see where it can go from there.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Majorca, Spain, to go to the Rafael Nadal Academy.”

Morgan Osborn // Columbus North senior volleyball player

Morgan Osborn

Osborn led the Bull Dogs with 15 digs and one ace in a three-set win against Bedford North Lawrence and with 14 digs and six aces in a three-set win at Columbus East.

Her performance last week: “A lot of adrenaline was rushing with playing against my sister (East’s Payten Osborn), and I think that helped me play pretty well.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I like to listen to country music and mess around with the ball just to clear my head a little bit.”

Favorite drink: “Sweet tea from McDonald’s”

Favorite food: “Spaghetti”

Favorite class: “Weights”

Favorite sports team: “I like to follow IU’s volleyball program. It’s a lot of fun to watch.”

Favorite athlete: “(Nebraska libero) Laney Choboy. I had a lot of people saying that I remind them of her, and ever since, I’ve started watching her.”

Role model: “My mom (Jessica Robertson)”

Best advice: “Put 100 percent effort, work hard and never give up.”

Athletics goal: “It was to play in college, and going to Indiana Wesleyan (next year), I kind of reached that goal.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I want to go to the mountains. It just looks like a fun place. I’ve been to the beach so many times that I would like to visit the mountains.”
