Home-based church The Outreach stepped forward to coordinate 2015’s Toys for Tots program for Bartholomew and Jennings counties. The 45-member ministry set up several donation boxes around the counties to collect unwrapped toys and money.
2000
Child’s Dream, a Tennessee-based program similar to Make-A-Wish Foundation, granted 8-year old Columbus resident Amber Huber’s wish for a computer. The program granted wishes for children with special needs or life-threatening illnesses.
1975
The Republic staff photographer Jon Carlson was named a winner in the Inland Daily Press Association Photography Contest for the second year in a row. Carlson won a second place award for a sports picture of Columbus East baseball coach Lou Giovanini.
