Dr. Robyn Spoon, a Columbus resident and CEO of Elevate Childhood Cancer Research and Advocacy, Inc., has been appointed by the state to serve on the Rare Disease Advisory Council (RDAC). Her term is through June 30, 2029.

The Indiana RDAC advises the Indiana Department of Health and the General Assembly on the needs of Hoosiers affected by rare diseases. The council’s mission is to improve access to care, promote research collaboration, and ensure patient perspectives guide state policy.

Spoon has been a statewide leader in childhood cancer research and policy.

Through Elevate, she helped secure Indiana’s first Childhood Cancer Research Fund and continues to advocate for equitable access to clinical trials and long-term survivorship care. She holds degrees from Ball State University (Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, M.A. in Executive Development for Public Service) and Indiana University (B.S. in Elementary Education).

“I’m honored to represent Columbus and the broader childhood cancer community,” Spoon said. “Together, we can ensure Indiana leads with compassion and innovation for families facing rare diseases.
