EDINBURGH — East Side Elementary in Edinburgh recently unveiled it’s new “Legend of Lancelot” playground, a castle-themed structure that celebrates imagination, movement and school pride.
The installation, located in the school’s main playground area, was thoughtfully selected and designed with the Edinburgh Lancers in mind, according to a news release.
Featuring red and black accents that reflect the school’s colors, the paly structure includes turreted towers and castle-like details reminiscent of a medieval fortress.
Every element was chosen to emphasize the spirit of engagement and growth that defines the Lancer’s identity, creating a space where students can let their imagination run wild while feeling connected to their school’s heritage and pride, the news release said.
“When we were looking through the design, seeing a medieval castle really fit our theme,” said principal, Jason Schoettmer. “Being the Lancers, and being able to get in our school colors, red and black, it worked out perfectly. The kids absolutely love it. It’s definitely an upgrade over our older equipment.”
The playground’s castle towers, bridges and slides provide opportunities for students to climb and explore. In addition to the main play structure, the area includes a Radical Rotator, Sit-N-Spins and a Glasslight Sound Get Physical Climber.
The new poured-in-place rubber surfacing not only enhances safety but also adds a bright, modern touch to the overall design, the news release said.
The project was developed and installed in collaboration with AAA State of Play, an Indiana-based playground equipment company that works with schools and communities across the nation to create safe, inclusive spaces that inspire active play.
The company helped East Side Elementary select a play system that would both reflect the school’s identity and meed the needs of students of all ages.
For East Side, the new playground represents mroe than just updated equipment; it’s a place where students can build confidence, creativity and friendships through play, the news release said. Teachers and staff have already notived the excitement during recess, with students eager to explore every corner of the new “castle”.
