Courthouse, bridge to be illuminated in ‘green’ to honor veterans

Bartholomew County will be illuminated in green this week in honor of the country’s veterans.

The Bartholomew County Commissioners signed onto a resolution supporting Operation Green Light, organized by the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers.

Operation Green Light— lasting from Tuesday to Nov. 11 — is intended is to let veterans know they are seen, appreciated and supported, organizers said.

Green was chosen because it is the color of hope, renewal and well-being, as well as a term commonly used to activate forward movement.

In Columbus, local government will mark the observance by illuminating the Bartholomew County Courthouse in green light, as well as displaying the same color on the Robert N. Stewart Bridge.

This is the fourth consecutive year the commissioners have signed onto such a resolution, and they encouraged community members to also light up their homes with green bulbs if able.
