County officials on Monday agreed to let the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office proceed with the purchase of handheld radios and outfitting of a new truck.

The Bartholomew County Commissioners ratified an expenditure by the sheriff’s office to purchase seven handheld radios and agreed to a updated proposal to outfit a new sheriff’s vehicle.

The radios will be purchased for $16,262.40, the sheriff’s office’s Chad Swank said, adding they will be bought through state quantity purchase agreement (QPA) pricing, ensuring that the department will get the same price for the radios, no matter the vendor.

Swank said a current batch of radios are “getting a little old” and that their current vendor no longer supports repairs.

A proposal the commissioners approved with Seymour-based Signal 10 LLC will outfit a 2023 Chevy Silverado for use by the sheriff’s department. They had already done so in July for $14,110, but that didn’t include shipping and handling costs, Commissioner Carl Lienhoop, R-District 2, said.

The updated price is $14,291.05. The sheriff’s office received a second bid for the work from Move Over Outfitters of Lafayette for $19,253.10.
