Local government officials are seeking input from community members to hear how the Columbus and Bartholomew County transportation system can be improved.
The Columbus Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), supported by the planning department, has released a survey regarding the regular update of the county-wide transportation plan, which is a pre-requisite for the city and county to continue to receive federal funds to help pay for transportation construction projects throughout the community.
This plan provides a long-term vision for all types of travel throughout the area and has a direct influence in identifying needed and priority transportation improvements for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and bus users.
The survey includes trade-off questions where the public is asked to determine where transportation improvement efforts should be focused. There is also an interactive mapping component where the public can add comments related to biking, walking, driving, and transit, including safety, needed connections, and desired improvements.
The survey is available in both English and Spanish and can be found by following the “Transportation Plan” link on the City of Columbus website’s home page at columbus.in.gov.
The survey will be available until February 1, 2026.
The planning department is also collecting public input for the plan via an open house on Nov. 19 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Columbus City Hall.
City, county, and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) staff will also be present to describe recent projects and past transportation planning efforts.
