Alice M. Fields, 79, a resident of Columbus, passed from this life November 15, 2025, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Born January 17, 1946, in Columbus, Alice was the loving daughter of the late Jesse and Evelyn Jewell Hilderbrand.

Alice’s journey began as a bright-eyed girl in Columbus, where she grew up surrounded by the love and laughter of her family. She carried that joy into her own family when she married the love of her life, David C. Fields, September 15, 1962; he preceded her in June 20, 2012.

Known for her unwavering dedication to her family, Alice embraced the role of homemaker with grace and enthusiasm. She created a home that was not only a place of comfort and security but also a hub of activity and warmth where all were welcome. Survivors include her children, Tammy (Bruce) Zaring of Columbus, John D. Fields of Seymour and Chris Fields of Westport; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren with a great-grandson to arrive in April 2026; sisters, Toni (Dale) Jordan of Columbus and Karen Cox of Missouri; brother, William Hilderbrand; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Alice was preceded in death her parents; husband; granddaughters, Erica Mae and Elizabeth Dawn Fields; sisters, Vivian Michael, Emma George, Judith Bassett and Rebecca Shelton; and brothers, Jesse, Charles, Archie, Clarence Alvie, Johnny Ray and Samuel Hilderbrand.

She was an avid bingo player, finding delight in the camaraderie and excitement of the game. Her love for fishing was more than just a pastime; it was a reflection of her appreciation for nature and the peacefulness she found by the water.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 20th, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday. Alice will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice of charities.
