Prep sports notebook: Bull Dogs, Hauser’s Dailey selected All-State; North football players make All-Conference

All seven runners from Columbus North state champion boys cross-country team have been named All-State by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches.

Seniors Jace Works and Denton Sluder, junior Justin Reckers and sophomore Joseph Day are on the Class 4A boys first team. Junior Graham Pumphrey and seniors Sam Steinmetz and Logan Vanzant made honorable mention.

Hauser senior Nolan Dailey and freshman Jace Wright made the Class A boys first team.

North junior Tristan Works is an honorable mention selection for 4A girls. Jennings County freshman Adistyn Long made honorable mention for 3A girls.

Bull Dogs named All-Conference

Eleven members of the Columbus North football team have been recognized with All-Conference Indiana honors.

Seniors Asher Ratliff, Parker Elmore, Morgan Knapp, Drew Schiefer, Sam Perry and Koleton Sinnock are on the first team. Seniors Anderson Horn, Macario Mendez, Charlie Parsons, Nehemiah Scruggs and junior Cohen Long made honorable mention.

Dutro, Osborn selected co-MVPs

Seniors Karen Dutro and Morgan Osborn have been named co-MVPs of the Columbus North volleyball team.

Dutro also was voted by teammates as Varsity Team Leader. Sydni Schiefer won the Positive Mental Attitude Award, and Clara Balzano won the Kathy Cox Heart of A Bull Dog Award.

Ada David won the Casey Cooley Award (for JV players), and Khloe Blackwell won the Jolie Crider Award (for freshman players). David also was voted JV Team Leader, and Lola Rose won the JV Positive Mental Attitude Award. Ava Munoz was voted Freshman Team Leader, and Dhani Patel won the Most Improved Player Award.

North to honor boys gymnasts, 1975 hoops team

Teams, athletes and coaches from a half-century ago will be honored at upcoming Columbus North boys basketball games.

There will be a reception for boys gymnastics athletes and coaches from the 1960s, 70s and 80s from 5-7 p.m. Saturday in the cafeteria. They will be recognized at halftime of the Bull Dogs’ varsity game against Hauser.

The 1975 boys basketball team that advanced to the state’s final four will be honored at the Dec. 12 game against Greensburg.
