Haines led the Crusaders with 14 points and had four rebounds Saturday in a 61-52 loss to River City. Earlier in the week, he scored six points in a 53-36 win at I-Town Prep.
His performance last week: “I feel like I need to work on my consistency and be more consistent hitting my shots. I’ll go on streaks and hit some good shots and then miss shots really bad.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “Just try to calm myself down as much as I can because if I get super nervous, I never play good. So I just try to relax and let the game come to me.”

Favorite class: “I like work-based learning, being able to get out of school early and go work.”

Best advice: “Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. You can’t change what others think about you, so just be you, and if people accept you or they don’t, so be it.’ So just be yourself.’
Athletics goal: “I’d like to win regional this year.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Hawaii, because the weather seems to be always nice. I don’t like being cold.”

Izzy Wakefield // Columbus East junior wrestler
Izzy Wakefield
Wakefield went 5-0 at 155 pounds to help lead the Olympians to a 2-3 record at Saturday’s Mooresville Duals. Earlier in the week, she won her match by pin in a 36-36 tie with Bloomington South.
Her performance last week: “I was met with a lot of unexpected challenges, and how I face things and prepare for unexpected challenges helped me.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I make sure my endurance is always up, but I like to prioritize mentally to make sure I am in the right frame of mine.”
Favorite drink: “Lemonade”
Favorite food: “Barbecued chicken”
Favorite class: “Psychology”
Favorite sports team: “Indiana University football”
Favorite athlete: “(Olympic wrestler) Jordan Burroughs”
Role model: “I have lots of different role models, but when it comes to wrestling, my coach (Ty Olds) is definitely my role model.”
Best advice: “Try your hardest because in the long run, it will be worth it.”
Athletics goal: “As a regional qualifier last year, my goal is to be a state qualifier this year.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Italy, just because of family heritage and because it’s a beautiful country in general.”
