City officials on Tuesday opened bids for a project that will modernize the traffic signal at 10th Street and Whitfield Drive.
Columbus Board of Public Works and safety members opened bids on a 10th Street and Whitfield Drive traffic signal modernization project, which City Engineer Andrew Beckort said will add a designated left turn phase to enhance safety, buff up electronics in the traffic signal cabinet and add camera detection.
The area doesn’t typically have more accidents than other intersections, Beckort said, but added that it’s not uncommon for cars to back up near Chick-Fil-A and Lowe’s.
The mayor also mentioned what could potentially be increased traffic in the area once the Olive Garden at 975 Creekview Drive opens.
The project received three bids:
- Signal Construction for $62,070
- Morphey Construction for $73,000
- Midwestern Electric for $83,675
The project award and final contract will come at later board of works meetings.
The work will be finished by March 30, according to city documents.
