Columbus North senior tight end Parker Elmore has been named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association All-State Top 50.
Elmore caught 58 passes for 927 yards and 13 touchdowns and carried 12 times for 53 yards and two scores before tearing the meniscus in his right knee in the next-to-last regular-season game. He has signed to play at Indiana University.
North’s Drew Schiefer is an offensive lineman on the IFCA Class 6A Senior All-State team. Columbus East’s Dallas Dykstra is a defensive back on the Class 5A Junior All-State squad, and Jennings County two-way lineman Gomie Gomez is an at-large selection on the Class 4A Junior All-State team.
Emore named Bull Dogs football MVP
Parker Elmore has been named MVP of the Columbus North football team.
Asher Ratliff was named MVP Offense, Koleton Sinnock was MVP Defense and Sam Perry was MVP Special Teams. Drew Schiefer was Most Valuable Lineman, Perry won the #ONE Award and Ratliff won the Bull Dog Award.
North to honor 1975 Final Four team
Columbus North will honor its 1975 boys basketball team at its game with Greensburg Friday.
The 1975 squad was the last Columbus North team to reach the state’s Final Four. There will be a reception in the cafeteria at 6 p.m., and team members, coaches, cheerleaders and student managers will be introduced at halftime of the varsity game, which will start around 7:30 p.m.
East to host toy drive at girls, boys games
Columbus East will host a Toy Drive for the Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund at its home girls and boys basketball games Saturday.
The most popular and needed items include LEGO, Nerf guns, dolls and dinosaurs, but any unopened toys are welcome and appreciated. Anyone who brings an unopened toy will have their name entered into a drawing to win a 55-inch TV.
The Olympian girls host Jeffersonville, with the JV game starting at noon and the varsity to follow at around 1:30 p.m. The East boys host Franklin, with the JV beginning at 6 p.m. and the varsity following at around 7:30 p.m.
