South Decatur holds off Jets

GREENSBURG — Trailing by 10 points with less than 2 1/2 minutes remaining Thursday, Hauser battled back to within four and had a chance to cut it to two, but South Decatur held on for a 51-47 girls basketball win in a battle of Mid-Hoosier Conference unbeatens.

The Jets (8-3, 1-1) led 13-10 after one quarter before the Cougars (6-5, 2-0) scored the first 11 points of the second period to take a 21-13 lead. Hauser answered with an 11-0 run of its own and led 24-22 at halftime.

South Decatur opened the third quarter with a 12-4 run to take a 36-28 lead. The Jets cut it to 38-33 after three quarters, but the Cougars scored the first six points of the fourth to take their biggest lead at 44-33.

Dalilah Martin scored 18 points, and Raegan Benge had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead South Decatur. Lilly Murray added eight points, and Riley Benge grabbed nine rebounds.

June Berkenstock and Braelyn Williams each scored 11 points to lead Hauser. Abby Manley had eight points, and Hayden Dickey grabbed eight rebounds.
