Martindale

Columbus Police Department Deputy Chief Douglas “Matt” Martindale graduated as a member of the 296th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Nationally, fewer than 1 percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program. Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 11 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend.

The 296th session consisted of 254 law enforcement officers, including men and women from 47 states and the District of Columbia. The class also included members of law enforcement agencies from 24 countries, four military organizations, and two federal civilian organizations.

“We are very proud of Deputy Chief Martindale’s accomplishments and graduation. The FBI National Academy is challenging, but CPD takes great pride in training the best officers and police professionals. Congratulation, Deputy Chief Martindale!” said Columbus Police Chief Steve Norman.

Martindale is a graduate of Indiana University, where he attended the IU Police Academy before starting with CPD as a police officer in 2014. In his time with CPD, he’s been a police officer, detective, detective sergeant, and has served as the deputy chief since April 2024.
