With the Columbus North girls forfeiting six weight classes, and three others being double-forfeits, Columbus East was assured of victory before Wednesday’s crosstown dual meet began.

The defending state champion Olympians won four of the five contested matches to claim a 60-6 triumph.

“They did what they were supposed to do,” East coach Ty Olds said. “They went out and did their job. I think the girls were up for it. This crosstown rivalry is important, and I think they just took care of business. That’s all you can ask of the girls. So I was pretty happy with how things went.”

The Olympians’ third-ranked Annie Redman started off the match with a pin of Zahlynn Williams at 170 pounds. East also got pins from Tienica Dits against Paris Lopez Pendoz at 105, Luci Morales against Alona Call at 130 and Izzy Wakefield against Aubreigh Campbell at 155.

This was Morales’ first non-forfeit match of the season.

“I feel really proud of myself coming back from injury,” Morales said. “It was really hard. I wasn’t feeling the best out there before going on, but I knew I needed to make myself proud and my team. My biggest thing was having all the support from my team and having people on the side. So I feel really great, and I’m proud of my whole team.”

East also got forfeit wins from Ashlee Manis (190), Kaydence Spradlin (235), Lia Tomlinson (110), Breylin Rodriguez (115), Dulce Santiago (120) and ninth-ranked Gloria Cloud (125).

The Bull Dogs’ points came from Nitya Hurli’s pin of Abby Morales at 100.

“I would say the girls wrestled better today than they did at our previous dual meets, and I think those previous ones that we had helped set them up for success for today,” North coach Lindsey Prozanski said. “I know there’s always that anxiety with the big crowd, but we’re going to wrestled with bigger crowds at sectional and state. We’re going to spend a lot of time over winter break working on hand fighting and all the things the girls need to work on. That’s one thing I always appreciate about having a smaller team, is I’m able to spend more time with each girl and what they need to be successful and peak at the right time.”

The Bull Dogs will compete in the Conference Indiana Tournament Saturday at Bloomington South. The Olympians will wrestle in Saturday’s Jeffersonville Classic.
