While most people have spent time celebrating Christmas with family and friends, there is still a lot of prep sports action going on over the next nine days.
That begins with Hauser hosting an eight-team girls basketball tournament. The Jets will take on Henryville in the opening contest at 9 a.m. Friday. The winner and loser will take on the Greenwood Christian Academy-South Decatur winner and loser at 6 p.m. the same day.
The Columbus East girls also are playing in the Hauser Tournament. The Olympians will meet Crawford County in the opening round at 1 p.m. Friday. The winner and loser will take on the Southwestern (Hanover)-Waldron winner and loser in the semifinals at 8 p.m. the same day. The placement-round games will began at noon Saturday with the seventh-place game, and the fifth-, third- and first-place games to follow.
The Columbus Christian boys basketball team will play in the Indiana-Kentucky Shootout at Shawe Memorial Friday and Saturday. The Crusaders will play Eminence (Kentucky) at 3 p.m. and Trimble County (Kentucky) at 8:30 p.m. Friday and face Carroll County (Kentucky) at 2:40 p.m. Saturday.
The Hauser boys basketball team will play in the Switzerland County Tournament. The Jets will face Fort Wayne Luers in the opening round at 12:30 p.m. Monday. Hauser will take on the winner or loser of the matchup between East Central and Mount Vernon (Posey) later that day in the consolation or semifinal round at 6:30 p.m. or 8 p.m., respectively. The placement-round games will begin with the seventh-place game at noon Tuesday and the fifth-, third- and first-place game to follow.
The Columbus North girls basketball team will compete in the Scottsburg Tournament, where it’ll face off with Brownstown Central in the opening round at 11 a.m. Monday. The winner of the game will take on the winner of the East Central-Seymour game in the semifinals at 6 p.m. later in the day. The consolation game will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the placement-round games starting at 2:30 p.m. later that day.
The North boys basketball team will play in the Fishers Tournament, where it’ll square off Evansville Bosse at 2 p.m. Jan. 2. The winner and loser of the game will play the New Albany-Lawrence Central winner and loser in either the consolation game at 7:15 later that day or in the semifinals at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 3. The placement-round games begin with the seventh-place game beginning at 2 p.m. Jan. 3 and the fifth-, third- and first-place games to follow.
The East boys basketball team will compete in a one-day round-robin tournament at Greenwood. The Olympians will face the tourney host at 9 a.m. Jan. 3 and then play Yorktown at 1 p.m. later that day.
Basketball isn’t the only the only thing going during the next nine days. The North girls wrestlers will compete in the New Albany Invitational at 8 a.m. Saturday. The Bull Dogs and Olympian girls will compete in the Indian Creek Sectional Jan. 2.
The North boys wrestlers will compete in the Evansville Mater Dei Tournament Monday and Tuesday, with each day beginning competition at 9 a.m. The East boys wrestlers will compete in the Mishawaka Invitational Jan. 2-3.
