Bartholomew County Public Library to host Teddy Bear Tea Party for kids

It can be boring for Teddy to stay home all the time. That’s why kids are invited to bring their favorite teddies or stuffed animals to a Teddy Bear Tea Party, to be held at the Bartholomew County Public Library Jan. 17 as part of its Saturday Storytime series.

The event will run from 11 to 11:45 a.m. in the library’s Red Room. Registration is requested but not required and fewer than 20 seats remain. To register, visit mybcpl.org.

The party will include teddy bear-related stories such as “Where’s My Teddy” by Jez Alborough and “Knuffle Bunny” by Mo Willems, in addition to rhymes, movement activities and songs.

The event is aimed towards kids ages 1 to 5, and their favorite stuffed animal, though older and younger siblings are always welcome to come, children’s programming librarian Kate Grafelman said.

“I think that they love it,” Grafelman said. “Kids usually love an excuse to be able to show off their favorite stuffy and to get to bring their stuffy out of the house, which is pretty rare because you don’t want to lose those.”

After storytime, a tea party with lemonade, cookies and tea will be held in the lower reception area near the stairs. A teddy bear themed die cut craft will be offered as well where kids can make their own teddy bear finger puppet, Grafelman said.

“It’s always fun to get to show off your stuffy and experience stuff with your stuffy together,” Grafelman said. “Storytimes are great for building early literacy skills, getting kids ready to read when they get to school and the Saturday Storytimes are extra special because there’s a lot of families who maybe the parents work during the day or maybe the kids are in preschool so they don’t have a chance to come to our Tuesday storytimes, so this is a chance for families who have the weekends free to get to experience storytime.”
