It’s a rare accomplishment when a high school basketball player scores 1,000 career points, but three area girls reached that milestone in a span of four days last week.
Trinity Lutheran junior Marley Warren went over 1,000 in Tuesday’s win against Lanesville. Edinburgh senior Kenna Streeval accomplished the feat in Thursday’s win against Brown County, and Columbus Christian senior Emma Murray reached 1,000 with her first basket in Friday’s win against Christian Academy of Madison.
“Definitely a big achievement, just to see how much I’ve grown since going from freshman year scoring eight points a game and now reaching the goal I thought I never would reach,” Murray said. “To have my family and friends supporting me was nice to see, too. I could see it more as a team accomplishment. I couldn’t have gotten 1,000 points without my team.”

Murray’s feat was extra special in that she did it at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever. With 23 points Friday, she now has 1,021 for her career.
“It was so cool to me that I got to get it at Gainbridge,” Murray said. “It just made the accomplishment more special. It definitely brought my spirits up even more coming out with the win. It was just a good day.
Kenna Streeval
Streeval became the fifth Edinburgh girl to reach 1,000 when she scored 32 Thursday. She now has 1,008 for her career.
“I didn’t know that it was achievable, but at the beginning of the year, coach (Dennis) Smith mentioned it,” Streeval said. “It’s a great accomplishment, but at the end of the day, you can’t do it without your teammates, coaches, fans, everybody. I’m really grateful to be able to play all of the sports I play at Edinburgh.”
Streeval is a four-sport athlete who is on track to finish with 16 varsity letters. She also had more than 1,0o0 digs in volleyball, runs track and is headed to Division-I Eastern Kentucky on a softball scholarship.
“It definitely kept keep me busy,” Streeval said. “They go together and have made me better and teach me different life lessons.”

Warren scored 22 points against Lanesville to become the fifth Trinity girl to reach 1,000. She now has 1,023 total.
“I think it’s definitely a testament to my hard work, but it also shows the opportunities my coaches have given me and the teammates I’ve played with,” Warren said. “It’s great to see all my hard work pay off.”
Murray, Streeval and Warren all are doing it in the course of winning seasons. Columbus Christian is 13-2 and won the Southern Roads Conference regular-season and tournament titles, Edinburgh is 9-8 and Trinity is 16-3 and ranked No. 5 in the state Class A.
“All of us work extremely hard every day in practice,” Warren said. “Being at a small schoool and small community, we all know each other, and we’re stating to click. We look forward to practicing with each other every single day.”
Warren, who has an offer from IU Kokomo, is planning to continue her career in college after next year.
“D-I has always been a goal of mine,” Warren said. “Obviously, if I make it there, that would be great. I’m just keeping my options open.”
Murray is planning to attend IU Columbus and is considering playing basketball.
“I definitely have thought about it,” Murray said. “If I am going to play college ball, that definitely would be my option.”
Meanwhile, another area girls basketball player went over the 1,000-point mark last year. Jennings County senior and Kansas recruit Mollie Ernstes is sitting at 1,594 career points for the Panthers, who are 14-5 and ranked No. 7 in Class 3A.
