COLUMBUS
Timothy Derstine Kissel, 74 of Columbus passed away peacefully at his home on 1/17/25. Born 8/8/1951 in Doylestown, PA, was the son of Mervin Cline and Evelyn Elaine Kissel.
A 1969 graduate from Pennridge High School, Perkasie, PA. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Messiah College in Grantham, PA in 1973. He then earned his Master of Divinity from Elkhart Bible Seminary in Elkhart, IN in 1976. He was the former pastor of Trenton Mennonite Church in Ohio. Tim loved working with his hands and owned his own carpet cleaning company before continuing to renovate houses well into his retirement.
Tim was an active member of Sandy Hook Methodist Church. He enjoyed the friendly and loving members of the congregation, especially pastor Paul Dazet.
Tim had a lifelong appreciation for Cadillacs and especially loved driving them. He had an extensive collection of model toy Cadillac cars and other memorabilia. He was a founding member of the annual Auto Museum Adventure Club, traveling for the last seventeen years to Northeastern and Midwestern states. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. One of his favorite experiences was traveling along historic Route 66, and his home reflected this passion. He liked to stay busy, making friends with those who shared his interests and spending time with his family.
Tim had a sweet tooth and enjoyed playing cards. He was an easygoing person, generous and kind to everyone he encountered. He could talk to just about anyone about anything as he was both witty and comical.
Tim’s family would like to thank Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana for their exceptional care and grace while keeping him comfortable in his last moments of life.
He is survived by his twin brother, James (Kathy) Kissel of Quakertown, PA, son, Justin (Sonia) Kissel of Mesa, AZ, daughter, Bethany (Mike) Lucas of Columbus, and grandchildren Ava Kissel and Cory Lucas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Hook Methodist Church.
Family and friends are invited to attend his celebration of life at Sandy Hook Methodist Church, 1610 Taylor Road, Columbus IN on Saturday, February 7th at 10am.
