Claudine Louise Staublin

COLUMBUS

Claudine L. Staublin, 86, of Columbus, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2026, at GreenTree at Westwood, surrounded by her family.

She was born September 21, 1939, in Greenwood, the only daughter of Ellice A. and Myrtle L. (Riley) McIntire, and grew up with three brothers. From an early age she helped care for her youngest brother, showing the nurturing spirit that defined her life.

Claudine married Paul Staublin, and together they shared a life built on devotion, hard work, and a love of history and craftsmanship. She worked more than 30 years at Cummins Engine Company, serving as secretary to several executives before retiring. She and Paul also operated Caritas, their antique shop in Madison, where Claudine excelled at researching and identifying each piece. After retirement Claudine volunteered her time with St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and Columbus Regional Hospital.

She was deeply involved in her children’s activities, especially as a longtime swim judge at Donner Park. After retirement she enjoyed traveling, including church trips to Europe and a memorable 80th birthday celebration in San Francisco.

Claudine loved walking, often with her beloved dogs and was a familiar face downtown. She enjoyed gardening, dancing well into her 80s, knitting treasured afghans, and humming tunes that became a trademark of her later years. She especially cherished morning visits to Le Fernandez for a chocolate croissant and a warm welcome from the family and employees.

Claudine was blessed with many wonderful caregivers over the years, including Wendell and Deb, Judy, Caregivers from Journey North past and present and many others she held close to her heart, even if she rarely wanted assistance. Claudine was fiercely independent, determined, and full of spirit until the very end.

She is survived by her children, Toni (Jim) McNulty of Elizabethtown, Mark (Valerie) Staublin of Chicago, IL, Tina Staublin of Kingston, NH, and Matt (Carly) Staublin of Moraga, CA; brother, Stanley McIntire; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Larry and Steve McIntire.
