Bull Frogs fall to Bloomington South

Dagan Kleffman

Columbus North will host the boys swimming sectional in three weeks, and Thursday evening, the Bull Frogs had a chance to see the team to beat in that sectional.

Bloomington South took first and second in all 11 swimming events in posting a 145-40 victory.

North’s lone top-two finish came in the diving competition, where junior Dagan Kleffman won with a score of 204.10.

“I did compete a bunch of new competition dives,” Kleffman said. “I had a bunch of new ones to try, and I’m getting ready for sectional for those now, so it was fun. I had a lot of fun with all my friends out there. These B-South kids are all my friends, so we had a good time.”

Aarush Mahato finished third in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 18.30 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:01.12) for the Bull Frogs. Eli McIntier took third in the 50 freestyle (25.10), Isaac Niewedde was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.91) and North finished third in the 200 medley (1:54.83) and 200 freestyle (1:44.51) relays.

“We did really pretty well,” North coach Mike Cunningham said. “We had a bunch of best times, great swims. They’re a great team, so coming up against them is always tough. But it’s a fun way to end the season.”

This was a boys-only meet and regular-season finale. The girls are tapering for their sectional, which is Feb. 5 and 7 at East Central, followed by the girls state finals Feb. 13-14. The boys sectional is Feb. 19 and 21, and the boys state finals is Feb. 27-28.

“We have some time to do some detail work and get ready to go here,” Cunningham said. “We expect some big things from the boys. We should have some nice races, and I’m looking forward to it.”
