Brownstown Speedway held its annual awards banquet Jan. 17 at Pewter Hall in Brownstown.
The 2025 track champions were Devin Gilpin of Columbus (super late models), Tyler Cain of Seymour (pro late models), Zach Sasser of Bedford (super stocks), Blake Hull of Butlerville (pure stocks), Jeremy Shemwell of Greenwood (hornets) and Matt Cranmer of Memphis (crown vics).
Gilpin claimed his sixth late model track championship at Brownstown in 2025 when he outpointed Matt Boknecht of Seymour, Derek Groomer of Bloomington, Steve Peeden of Martinsville and Tucker Chastain of Mitchell. Gilpin won five super late model feature races at Brownstown last season.
Cain dominated the pro late model division with seven victories in winning the championship over Skyller Lewis of Brownstown, Zachary Stalker of Salem, Patrick Shumaker of Sellersburg and Brent McMillan of North Vernon. McMillan was named Rookie of the Year in the class.
Zach Sasser won six features on his way to the championship of the super stock division over Greg Amick of Spraytown, Isaiah Sasser of Bedford, Jack Roberts of Seymour and Jenna Boknecht of Seymour. It was Zach Sasser’s second track title at Brownstown. His first came in 2022.
Hull won 15 feature races on his way to the pure stock title. J.T. Huffman of Salem was second in points, followed by A.J. Wilson of Butlerville, Preston Carr of Underwood and Danny Hupp of Scipio. It was Hull’s first career track championship at Brownstown.
Shemwell won three feature races taking the hornet division championship earning his second career title at Brownstown. Shemwell also won in 2023. James Simmons of North Vernon was second in points for the class followed by Preston Righthouse of Austin, Marshall Claycamp of Seymour and Max Claycamp, also of Seymour.
Cranmer’s first track title at Brownstown in the crown vic division was in 2025 when he went to Victory Lane eight times during the season. Matt Weston of Vallonia was second in points, followed by Todd Cain of Columbus, Jesse Stewart Jr. of Salem and Brandon Lange of Crothersville.
The first race of the 2026 season will be March 14 with the Ira Bastin Memorial for the Northern Allstar Late Models paying $10,000 to win. Also competing will be the Northern Allstar Modifieds and Pure Stocks.

Tony Stewart Speedway 2026 schedule released
The 2026 racing schedule for the Tony Stewart Speedway in Columbus has been released. The track located at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds will hold events from April through September this year.

USAC Sprints season opener next week
It’s time once again to bust out of the frigid doldrums of winter and get into the swing of USAC Winter Dirt Games XVII Presented by Yokohama Tire, the official kickoff to the 2026 USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship season.
Everyone’s set with shiny new and refreshed machinery and an optimistic outlook at the season that lie ahead, beginning in Florida with six events across six nights at a pair of dirt tracks in the heart of the Sunshine State.
The 17th annual edition of Winter Dirt Games presents practice night at the 3/8-mile Ocala Speedway on Sunday, followed by the first two rounds of racing at Barberville’s 1/2-mile Volusia Speedway Park on Monday and Tuesday, while Ocala Speedway finishes out the week with four-straight evenings of racing on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Feb. 14.
