The Columbus East gymnasts put together a full varsity lineup for the first time this season Monday when they hosted Edgewood.
The Olympians put up an 89.8 team score, while the visiting Mustangs came away with the win with a 99.2.
“It was not our best meet,” East co-coach Katie Menefee said. “We have a lot of improvement that we need to do to be ready for sectional next Friday.”
As she has in most of the Olympians’ meets this season, junior Bethany Lewis won the all-around competition. Lewis captured the bars (8.6), beam (8.8) and floor (9-0) and placed third on the vault (8.45) on her way to a 34.85 all-around score.
“It definitely wasn’t my best meet, but I’m good with that because it will give me more of a drive for sectional,” Lewis said. “I just know what to work on when I get back in the gym, so I’m excited for that. We’re staying positive as a team, so I’m pretty proud of us.”
East’s Kai Scott tied for third on the floor with an 8.35. Scott scored a 29.25 in the all-around, and Ava Luedeke had a 25.7 all-around score.
The Olympians have a quick turnaround with a trip Tuesday to Rushville. East will visit Seymour Feb. 23 and will compete in the Franklin Central Sectional Feb. 27.
“There were some good, but this was definitely one that we want to improve on (Tuesday),” East co-coach Melissa Dishinger said. “Hopefully, we can fix some of the things that we were working on today. It wasn’t a terrible meet, but we can definitely do better than what we did today.”
