Honoring the life of The Rev. Jesse Jackson

From: Bishop Johnnie Edwards

President, Columbus/Bartholomew County NAACP

On behalf of the Columbus/Bartholomew County NAACP, we pause to acknowledge the passing and honor the extraordinary legacy of the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Jackson dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice, equality and economic empowerment for marginalized communities across this nation. Through decades of tireless advocacy, he gave voice to the voiceless, challenged systems of inequality, and inspired generations to stand boldly for civil and human rights. His leadership, courage and unwavering faith helped shape the modern civil rights movement and expanded opportunities for countless Americans.

As president of the Columbus/Bartholomew County NAACP, I recognize the profound impact his work has had not only nationally but in communities such as ours. His commitment to civic engagement, voter empowerment, youth leadership and economic justice aligns deeply with the mission we continue to carry forward today.

Jackson’s life reminds us that progress requires persistence, faith and collective action. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a legacy that will continue to inspire advocacy, service and unity for generations to come.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and all who were touched by his leadership and ministry.
