HOPE — The Flat Rock-Hawcreek (FRHC) School Board swore a new member into office Tuesday.

Elected during the previous meeting, Jay Phelps officially became the newest member of the FRHC School Board after a brief swearing-in ceremony.

Once sworn in, Phelps helped vote on various motions presented to the board.

For personnel, the board approved new volunteers for the 2026-2027 school year as well as approving Jenna O’Neal as JV volleyball head coach and Ellie Trotter as varsity volleyball assistant coach.

During the superintendent’s report, Facilities Director JB Royer requested the hire of T&T Electric for the installation of lights around the tennis courts for $17.525. Superintendent Shawn Price told the board that the lights would not be for the tennis court, but rather to provide better lighting for the parking lot and walkways near the tennis courts to ensure better safety for the students.

Athletic Director Kyle Shipp also requested the approval for the Hauser boys soccer team to participate in an electronic discount card fundraiser beginning at the end of March.

The board unanimously passed both these decisions.

Finally, the board decided to change their next meeting day from March 3 to a week later, March 10, to avoid conflict with the Hauser boys basketball sectional game. They will decide on the date of the following meeting on March 3.
