The Full Throttle Speed Skating team competed at multiple events last weekend. The majority of the team competed at the Northburke Short Track Open Feb. 14 in Northbrook, Illinois. Full Throttle also had a skater compete at the US Long Track Age Group Nationals Feb. 13-14 in Roseville, Minnesota.
At the Northburke Short Track Open, Edward Meir competed a 333m, 500m and 777m distances for his division. Meir finished sixth overall for boys in his division.
Ethan Tan, Gabe Marimoto Taqueushi and Quin Fortner competed a 333m, 500m and 777m distances for their division. Tan finished 10th, Gabe Marimoto Taqueushi finished eighth and Fortner finished third overall for boys in their division.
Maria Marimoto Taqueushi, Vivaan Gupta and Rithwik Veeravalli competed at 500m, 1000m and 1500m distances for their division. Marimoto Taqueushi finished fifth overall for girls in her division. Gupta finished sixth, and Veeravalli finished fourth overall for boys in their division.
Wyatt Kiefer and Luis Marimoto Taqueushi competed at 500m, 1000m and 1500m distances for their division. Kiefer finished 11th, and Luis Marimoto Taqueushi finished eighth overall for boys in their division.
At the outdoor John Rose 400m Oval in Roseville, Minnesota, Eric Nichols represented Full Throttle at US Long Track Age Group Nationals. Nichols competed in Junior D (ages 11-12) division at 200m, 400m, 500m, 600m and 1200m distances, with awards are earned in each distance and points accrued for an overall score. Nichols took gold in the 200m and 400m distances and silver at 500m distance, fifth at 600m distance and ninth at 1200m, following interference from another skater. His combined efforts earned Nichols overall bronze for his division.
Monsters clinch top broomball seed
Monsters of Rock clinched the No. 1 seed in the Columbus Broomball League playoffs with a 3-0 win against Jennings County BC Sunday.
Rob Jones, Kyle Roshak and Mike Wise netted the goals for Monsters (8-1). JCBC fell to 1-8 and will be the No. 6 seed.
Rockpile (5-4) beat CCA 5-2 behind goals from Max Warr, Matt Street, Eric Nolan, Joe Haase and Nathan Haase. Jay-Paul Choudhary and Chris Judd scored for CCA (5-3-1).
Hansons edged Our Name Is Earl 3-2. Jaan Singh scored his first two career goals, and Dave VanValkenburg had his first goal of the season for Hansons (3-6). Gabe Marsh recorded both goals for Earl (4-4-1).
Sunday’s games will be the last week of the regular season.
