COLUMBUS
Margot Keith Green, 88, peacefully passed away on February 15, 2026 after having caught COVID. She was born on April 23, 1937 to Josephine and Arthur Keith. As an only child she was surrounded with her parents love, attention and support.
She grew up in Winnetka, Illinois. Her parents were enthusiastic golfers. Margot enjoyed going to the Skycrest country club with her parents. She had so many wonderful memories of Winnetka during her school years that she wrote a book about it for her children.
Margot was blessed to marry not one, but two, six-foot three men with doctorates. Her children arrived during her first marriage. In 1977 she married Hal K. Green whom she met while working on her thesis.
Her higher education began with B. Music with Distinction, Eastman School of Music/University of Rochester, 1959. She went on to get her M.A., Ball State University in 1972. In 1976 she achieved Ed.D. from Indiana University.
Margot worked at Ball State University from 1972 to 1977 as an instructor and adjunct assistant professor. From 1977 to 1980 she worked for the Indiana Department of Education where she was a speaker at numerous State and National conferences. Her career at Cummins Engine Company ran from 1980 to 2000. Margot had management positions then advancing to the director level in 1985. She retired as Director of Corporate Communications.
She worked among some of the most talented, intelligent people of our state, but her pinnacle moment was when two elementary school girls shared their faith in Jesus with her. Margot wrote that the seed of her path to salvation was planted in her elementary school years. Her family misses her smile and intellect. We hope to see her again.
Her hobby was researching her family genealogy. She was a member of the Bartholomew County Historical Society. After retiring Margot enjoyed a quiet life at home with her spouse.
Margot was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, daughter Carolyn Wolpert, and stepson George Green. She is survived by her son, James (Roberta) Wolpert, stepdaughter Genelle (Grady) Fountain, grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Following Margot’s wishes cremation will take place.
A private inurnment will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to United Way Bartholomew County, 1531 13th Street, Suite 1100, Columbus, IN 47201.
