Mary Joan “Jo” Dewar, 90, of Nashville passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Gentry Park Senior Living in Bloomington, IN. She was born May 25, 1935, in Brown County, IN the daughter of Russel and Virginia Thickstun. Jo was a 1952 graduate of Nashville High School and later attended House of James Beauty College. Jo married Donald Dewar on June 16, 1965, in Brown County, Indiana. They were married 52 years. Jo worked her entire professional career for Indiana Bell Telephone and AT&T.
Jo was an avid hiker and loved to go hunting for mushrooms, geodes, and relocating daffodils. She loved traveling and seeing the world, as well as spending time with family and friends. She loved her family above all else. Jo is greatly missed by all those who loved her. Jo is survived by her children Andrew (Andrea) Dewar, Aimee (Keith) Dewar; her brother Leon (Karen) Thickstun; and three grandchildren.
Her parents, her husband Donald Dewar, and two sisters Alice (Art) Stines and Peg (Gary) Robertson, preceded her in death.
Funeral Service will be held at 4 pm Friday March 6 at Allen Funeral Home (4155 S. Old St RD 37, Bloomington). Rev Clark Miller is officiating. Visitation will be from 1PM to service time Friday, March 6, 2026, at the funeral home.
