The Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. board approved changes to the 2025-2026 district calendar after severe weather caused multiple cancellations.
April 6, which was originally a professional development day, will now be a full day for students, according to school officials. May 21 will now be a professional development day and the last day for teachers will be on May 22. These same changes were approved last year also as a result of cancellations because of severe weather.
“Overwhelmingly, our staff said the use of that April day is much more productive as it’s before AP testing starts as well as other testing, so… the same change that was requested last year,” BSCS Superintendent Chad Phillips said.
Board President Rich Stenner, District 2, asked Phillips what families should do if they already made travel plans for April 6, which is the Monday following Easter. For those in that situation, Phillips said they should contact their child’s teachers or principal, who will make sure that the students have the opportunity to make up that work and it will be an excused absence.
“The whole point of having the school on that day is to make sure kids have access to learning that’s meaningful and valuable that day and so we don’t want to exclude anyone from that,” Phillips said.
