High water and closed roads continued to create havoc on county roads and city streets on Friday, as flood warnings and watches continued throughout central Indiana.

The Bartholomew County water rescue team, with Columbus Township Fire and Rescue and Columbus firefighters, were at a water rescue at 9:37 a.m. Friday in which a father and two children were trapped in their vehicle on Tellman Road, just north of the Flatrock River in the Mill Race Park area in Columbus.

The three were trapped in a Kia Sorrento with water up to the vehicle’s door handles when rescued, first responders said. They were uninjured but were taken to an ambulance to be checked after the incident.

Tellman Road is closed due to flooding in the area, but there was some confusion as to whether the high water and road closing signs had washed away or were missing on one side of the blocked road. A city Department of Public Works employee was replacing the signs at the scene, according to first responders.
