IU Columbus split a River States Conference softball doubleheader with Rio Grande Saturday, winning the first gmae 8-7 and dropping the second 8-7 at Columbus East.
The Crimson Pride trailed the first game 7-6 before Mallory Shelton hit a game-tying homer in the bottom of the sixth and singled in Jazlynn Stewart with the game-winner in the seventh. Justice Cash went 2 for 3, Linnea Baldner went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Stewart went 2 for 4 and Cierra Cramer went 2 for 5 with a double. Chloe Linn picked up the win in relief of Destiny Forler.
In the second game, Shelton went 3 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs, while Baldner went 2 for 4 with a double and Cramer went 2 for 4. Kaitlyn Spears, the first of three IUC pitchers, took the loss.
The Crimson Pride (5-5, 2-2) will visit Shawnee State for a doubleheader Friday before returning home to host Brescia for a doubleheader March 14 at Ceraland.
