UPDATE: Slight risk for severe weather possible in county Tuesday and Wednesday

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Emergency Management said the county  is under a slight risk for severe weather on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bartholomew County is under a slight risk for flooding on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thunderstorms are expected at times from Tuesday evening through Wednesday.

An estimated  1-2 inches of rainfall late Tuesday through Wednesday will exacerbate and prolong ongoing flooding.

Potential Hazards:

•       Isolated tornadoes

•       Large hail

•       Damaging thunderstorms

•       Locally heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding

Timing:

•       Tuesday storms – 5 p.m. to midnight

•       Excessive Rainfall – 10 p.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday

•       Wednesday storms – 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In addition to the severe weather threat, river flooding will likely continue and could worsen. Forecasts indicate an additional 1–1.5 inches of rain by late Wednesday. Additional rainfall could lead to renewed or worsening flooding over the next several days

Stay weather aware and monitor forecasts through mid-week
Have multiple ways to receive warnings (NOAA Weather Radio, phone alerts, local media)
Review your severe weather safety plan and know where your safe place is
Avoid flooded roadways — Turn Around, Don’t Drown
Be prepared for changing river levels and potential road closures in flood-prone areas
Secure outdoor items ahead of storms and ensure emergency supplies are ready

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Emergency Management said the county is currently under a slight risk for severe weather on Tuesday. Residents should stay weather aware as conditions may become favorable for scattered severe storms Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Scattered severe storms are possible Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with all hazards possible. One to 2 inches of rainfall is forecast for late Tuesday through Wednesday which may exacerbate and prolong ongoing flooding

Temperatures will remain very warm through Wednesday, before turning cooler later in the week.
