William Eugene Champine

COLUMBUS

William Eugene Champine was born February 12, 1941, and passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Brenda Champine and three children: William, Nicole, and Leon. He is also survived by two stepchildren: Amy Rees and Nikolaus Hoffman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne (d. 1992). He was the second of thirteen children and is survived by siblings: Kathleen McHugh, Patricia Zarate, Christine Champine, Suzanne Hufnagel, Tim Champine, Tom Champine, and Dorothy Babic.

Bill served in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he built a career as an engineer. Beyond his professional life, he believed in giving back: he volunteered with CASA and supported several youth-facing organizations, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

His Catholic faith and local community were of deep importance to him and he took genuine joy in using his fix-it skills to help neighbors and friends. In retirement, he loved riding motorcycles and spending time in his workshop doing woodworking, where he could build, repair, and create.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2026, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Chris Wadelton officiating.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 11:30 a.m. to time of service.

Mr. Champine will be laid to rest at the Garland Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
