Douglas E. Thomas

COLUMBUS

Douglas Eugene Thomas passed away March 1st, 2026 in Houston, Texas.

He was born October 16th, 1958, in Washington DC to Loretta and Eugene Thomas. Survived by his wife of 47 years, LuAnn; children Bryanna, Ryan, and Elizabeth; grandchildren Eden, Rowan, Alexandra, and Cato; his father Eugene and sister Laurie (Jeff) Ison. Doug is preceded in death by his mother, Loretta Thomas and son-in-law, Don Mellencamp.

Growing up, Doug’s one true passion was baseball, until he attended Purdue University. There he found a new love in the form of his beloved wife, LuAnn, and that was it for him. The rest of his life was spent demonstrating a deep, steadfast, unbreakable love towards his partner in all things, his soul mate, his bride.

Doug worked in Human Resources throughout most of his career, locally with Cummins for years then retiring from Faurecia. His career took him all over the world, often times bringing his wife and family with him, and creating memories from their many adventures. The tail end of his career found him in one of the most joyful and surprising jobs of his life, delivering flowers for a local floral shop. Doug’s greatest joy was bringing joy to others, and this position was able to satisfy that desire to brighten someone else’s day.

He was a founding member of Westside Community Church where he lead men’s ministries and bible studies, marriage retreats and served on the Leadership Team. He spent much of his retired years continuing to serve WCC as project and building manager. Doug’s dedication to his Heavenly Father was evident through all that he did, always making sure to keep Him at the center of his life, and always striving to bring those around him into the fold.

His favorite and most cherished role however, was family man. He was a devoted husband, a dedicated father and grandfather, and a loving brother and son. He had a servant’s heart, and spent his life doing for others, always putting their needs before his. He invested himself into what his family’s passions were, and was always there to show his support and encouragement in any way he could.

The rule that Doug lived by, always, was God first, then his marriage, then his family, and he lived by this creed every day. He was a great and loving man, and there are no words that can depict the impact he had on those around him, nor that can describe how great a loss his passing is. He will be carried in the hearts of those he left behind, until we meet again…

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Westside Community Church with Pastor Dennis Aud officiating.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 12:00 p.m. to time of service.

A private graveside service will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery.
