Looking Back – March 11

Members of the Yankee Doodle Dandies Drum and Baton Corps work on their contest routine on March 10, 1976, in the First Presbyterian Church gymnasium. The 28-member troupe would participate in a statewide contest on March 13 in Ellettsville.

2016

The Columbus Plan Commission unanimously approved site plan changes for the historic Columbus Pump House, which was being renovated into an Upland Brewing Co. pub and restaurant. The approved changes included installing a 6-foot fence along the railroad tracks.

2001

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bartholomew County held its annual Rock n’ Bowl for Kids’ Sake at the Columbus Bowling Center, which raised money for the agency. Bowlers were treated to free hotdogs, soft drinks and popcorn.

1976

Columbus Women’s Center received the Program of the Year Award from the Video Access Center for its “Low Income Panel” program. The center also received the 1975 Public Service Award.
