COLUMBUS
Ronald E. “Ron” King, 83, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Ron lived a life rooted in hard work, family, and the simple things he loved most. He graduated from Brown County High School and went on to build not only homes, but a life centered on caring for the people around him. On March 5, 1965, he married Ruth Duncan, and together they shared 61 years of marriage, family, and memories.
Ron was a general contractor and home builder, as well as the owner of King’s Carpet. He was someone who liked to work with his hands, stay busy, and be outside. If you asked Ron how he was doing, he would usually just say, “fine, fine, fine.” He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working outdoors, and watching and feeding the birds and squirrels. He also had a love for Lowe’s that those who knew him well would easily understand and smile about.
He served in the Indiana Army National Guard and was a 32nd Degree Mason. More than anything, Ron loved spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for the life he built, the work he took pride in, and the love he had for the people closest to him.
Ron is survived by his wife, Ruth King; his children, Becky (Pat) Kiel, Rex (Julie) King, and Ryan King; his grandchildren, Jessica DeHart, Brittany (Jamey) DeHart, Caleb King, and Ashlynn (Evan) Kinniard; his great-grandchildren, Jayden DeHart, Taegan DeHart, and Noah DeHart; his sisters, Beverly Kinnane and Susie Chatham; his sister-in-law, Debbie (Gary) Ritzline; his brothers-in-law, Ronnie Duncan and Dave (Judy) Duncan; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Eva King; his brothers-in-law, Jerry Kinnane, Gene Chatham, Joe Everroad, and Allen Barr; and his sisters-in-law, Carol Everroad and Mary Barr.
The celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. Military honors will be presented at 1 p.m. Saturday by the Indiana Army Reserve National Guard Honor Guard.
