Judy Kay Wilson Baxter, age 84, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, at her residence in Brownstown, Indiana, surrounded by her beloved family. Born on July 6, 1941, in Columbus, Indiana, Judy’s life was a rich tapestry of love, creativity, and spirited generosity.
A 1959 graduate of Columbus High School, Judy was a cherished member of the Brownstown First Pentecostal Church, where her faith and kindness touched many hearts. Known for her sweet yet feisty nature, she embraced life with a vibrant energy that made her presence unforgettable. Judy took immense pride in her home, transforming it into a sanctuary adorned with her own artwork—a testament to her boundless artistic gifts. She was a master shopper, delighting in the hunt and discovery of treasures, always with a twinkle in her eye.
Her passion for gardening was legendary; she nurtured her flowers and vegetables with devotion, creating corners of beauty and life. An accomplished artist and photographer, Judy earned numerous awards at the Jackson County Fair, showcasing her talent and deep connection to the natural world. Her culinary skills were a source of joy for all who knew her, with family favorites like her chili, sausage stew, and peanut butter cookies becoming cherished traditions.
Judy’s heart overflowed with love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a love that was reciprocated with the purest affection. She leaves behind her devoted daughter Tammy Etheridge and her husband Tim of Freetown, Indiana, her son Michael Day and his wife Michelle of Columbus, Indiana, her brothers Jerry Wilson of Seymour, Indiana, and Jeff Wilson and his wife Debbie of Phoenix, Arizona, and her sister Delora Antle and her husband Larry of Columbus, Indiana. Her legacy also lives on through her five grandchildren—Carrie Day, Eli Butler, Caleb Butler, Anna Day, and Elizabeth Scott—her twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, each carrying forward the warmth and spirit she infused into their lives.
Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Harry Baxter, her parents Oliver and Virginia Jean Wilson, her sister Janice Skinner and brother-in-law Dave and grand daughter Megan Day. Their memory remains entwined with hers, a foundation of love and strength.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Christensen Family Funeral Home – Winklepleck Chapel, located at 320 N. High Street, Brownstown, Indiana. The funeral service will follow from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location, a final tribute to a woman whose life was as vibrant and moving as the art she created and the love she freely gave. She will be laid to rest at Duncan Cemetery on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
