The Rev. Ed Scherer-Berry, pastor of Newbern United Methodist Church, portrayed a Roman soldier in a one-person drama, “The Guard,” during the church’s service. The performance depicted the soldier’s spiritual journey after witnessing Jesus after he rose from the dead.
