North senior organizes block party for Toys for Tots as senior project

A Columbus North High School student as part of her senior project is hosting a block party and fundraiser in the former Sears building parking lot on Friday.

Senior Rebecca McCartney has organized a block party with food vendors, live music, games and an opportunity for little ones to see some unique vehicles up close through Touch A Truck.

It will take place on Friday, April 3 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 323 Brown St., the former Sears Building parking lot, which the city’s redevelopment department took control of in 2024. Admission and parking are free.

The event will also raise money for Toys for Tots— donations can be made at the entrance with either cash or a new toy. McCartney is planning to hold a raffle to obtain extra donations as well.

Food vendors include: Hope Boys Scouts Pack 534, Miss Rachel’s Neat Treats, Antojitos Rosita, Lemonade Bros., D&D Lunchbox and Cookie Paradise.

Trucks that will be on site include a CRH ambulance, a Rumpke trash truck, a patrol vehicle from the Columbus Police Department fleet and a Columbus Fire Department fire truck.
