We at The Republic, and journalists at news organizations generally, take an expansive view of the public’s right to know what their government is doing. We believe government records, with few exceptions, should be considered public and available to anyone who requests them.

Being an election year and with primary elections looming, the clear intention of the 2024 Indiana General Assembly leadership was for a short session avoiding controversial issues. Indeed, the session proved to be the lightest and most inconsequential in my memory.

I don’t know about you, but I thought the solar eclipse was amazing! I’ve seen partial eclipses before — back in 2017 and one many years ago when I was in grade school. However, this total eclipse significantly notched up the coolness factor.

Political letters to the editor supporting or opposing political candidates or parties ahead of the May 7 Indiana primary election must be received by The Republic by 5 p.m. Monday, April 22.

Dear Amy: My wife and I have been married for five years. Each of us has brought up the topic of having an open marriage at one time or another.

The undecided Republican primary voter will very likely decide which candidate for governor will win the upcoming election. I base this assumption on some recent polling done by my media company, Indy Politics.

On one hand, the total solar eclipse that was visible for just under four minutes in our area on Monday afternoon was really something. On the other hand, it really wasn’t as big a something as anticipated.
