The public is invited to attend the February art show at Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness and Art featuring the work of Executive Director and Guiding Teacher Karen Chilman. The show opens on Friday, Feb. 2nd with a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. On display will be over fifty pieces of art Karen created over the past forty five years. Works on canvas, on paper and wood as well other media will be shown. Many have never been exhibited before and most will be for sale to the public.
“Most work I do now is commissioned, like live wedding paintings, pet portraits, some people portraits, home and landscapes. I’m busy with teaching yoga and art, and I don’t have a lot of time to create- so I’ve been pulling works saved through the years. When I have the urge to create, it’s often flowers, landscapes or shapes and colors that my mind sees.
In this show, there is quite a variety of images from local landmarks to abstract expressionism. I love color and light, that may be the only commonality in the works- if there is one. Mostly, I create for the love of creation and the love of art of all kinds,” said Chilman.
A retired public school art teacher, Chilman, co-founded Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness and Art as a 501c3 with friend and co-worker, Charlinda Evans, in 2018. Each month a local artist has the opportunity to show and sell their work.
Perceptions is located across from the Jennings County Courthouse. Parking is in back or around the square. Perceptions Galleries are open in February on Tuesdays from 1 to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 12 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or by appointment by messaging 812-528-1313 or emailing karenchilman@perceptionsyoga.org.
