Harry Palmer Sr.

North Vernon

Harry Thomas Palmer Sr., 71, of North Vernon, passed away at 3 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2016, at his residence.

Born July 1, 1945 in Versailles, Mr. Palmer was the son of Harry George and Naomi Thomas Palmer. He married Sally Armstrong on September 25, 1970, in Madison, she survives.

Mr. Palmer was a 1964 graduate of New Marion High School and served in the U. S. Army from 1965-1966. He was a machine operator for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 32 years retiring in December of 2000. Mr. Palmer was a member of the North Vernon Moose Lodge, North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59, Indiana Milk Bottle Collectors and a Coach of Little League baseball for eight years. His enjoyments included collecting antiques, especially Indiana Milk Bottles, going to auctions, fishing and hunting.

Surviving with his wife, Sally Palmer are; sons, H. Tommy (Johna) Palmer Jr. and Brian L. (Taffany) Palmer, both of North Vernon; brother, LeRoy (Sue) Palmer of North Vernon; sisters, Pauline Rogers and Vadah (Scott) Hawkins, both of Madison; grandchildren, Jerod Palmer, Chasity McNicholas, Chase McNicholas, Lauren Lane, Makayla Palmer, Brianna Palmer, Bo Palmer and Luke Palmer, all of North Vernon; and great-grandchildren, Gracie Spurlock and Leah Spurlock, both of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Palmer; and sister, Violet Palmer.

A funeral service for Mr. Palmer will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon, with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the funeral home and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service Thursday. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by members of North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon with military graveside rites by members of Matt Hester Post#2021 V.F. W.

Richard Aspenson

Columbus

Richard D. Aspenson, 76, died December 17, 2016, in Columbus, Indiana.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Mary; two sons, Randy Aspenson of Columbus and Rick Aspenson of Nashville; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. December 28, 2016, at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1682 State Road 135 North, Nashville, Indiana 47448.

Hollis Burton

Edinburgh

Hollis Marion Burton, 71, of Edinburgh, passed away December 17, 2016, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Indiana. He was born October 27, 1945, in Casey County, Kentucky. He was the son of Cecil R. and Grace E. (Allen) Burton. He married Melissa K. (Curry) Burton and she survives.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Tony Burton of Gainesboro, Tennessee, Jamie Burton of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, Ben Burton,  Josh Burton and Seth Voorhies, all of Edinburgh; daughters, Jennifer Burton, Heather Childers and Loran Hatfield, all of Franklin, Indiana, and Kayla Voorheis of Edinburgh; brothers, Bob (Helen) Burton of Franklin, Jeff (Shirley) Burton of Edinburgh and Tom Burton of Beech Grove, Indiana; sisters, Margaret Mills, Charity Hagan and Vickie Hagan, all of Edinburgh; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Hollis David Burton; brothers, Tony Ray Burton and Steve Burton; and a sister, Patty Cooper.

He attended Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church and was a retired truck driver.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Mike Whited at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church. Calling will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, at the church and from noon until time of service on Wednesday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

Wendell Hibbitt

Wendell C. Hibbitt, 75, of Laughlin, Nevada, formerly of San Diego, California, died August 3, 2016, in Nevada.

He is survived by a son, Patrick Hibbitt of San Diego, California; his mother, Irva Hibbitt of Flora, Illinois, formerly of Columbus; and a sister, Beverly Hibbitt Schwaninger of Flora, Illinois.

Military services were held September 29, 2016, at Marine Base MCAS Miramar, located in Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, California.

Martha Weston

Scottsburg

Martha Marilyn Weston, 93, of Scottsburg, formerly of North Vernon, died at 10:50 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016, at Lake Pointe Village in Scottsburg.

She is survived by her sons, Roland (Ada) Weston of Scottsburg, Garrett Weston of Madison and Randy (Karen) Raub of Grafton, Illinois; a brother, Lee (Patsy) Cash of Anderson; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Weston and a son, Michael Weston.

A funeral service for Mrs. Weston will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in North Vernon.

Dimple George

Columbus

Dimple E. George, 87, of Columbus, died at 3 a.m., Sunday, December 18, 2016, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Hope.

Mrs. George enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking and attending church. She loved to play various games with her family and riding her bicycle daily, sometimes up to six miles!

Dimple was born in Russell County, Kentucky, May 22, 1929, to the late Willis and Carrie Bradshaw Brockman.

On July 27, 1946, she married Thomas George in Russell County, Kentucky.

Survivors include her children, Regina (Mark) Chapple, Joyce Howard, Debbie Gassaway, all of Columbus, Doris (Don) Washburn of Tennessee, Sherry (Dallas) Anderson of Westport and Tom (Karen) George of Taylorsville; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; son, Christopher Scott George; brothers, James (Dolly) Brockman, Paul (Shirley) Brockman and Arthur Brockman; sisters, Maxine (Gordon) Loy and Rosa (Russell) Powell; grandchildren, Christopher David Herron and Travis Rice.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016, at the Taylorsville United Methodist Church, 1361 Tannehill Road, Taylorsville, Indiana 47280, with Pastor Lonny Goen officiating. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

Alice McKinney

Columbus

Alice Mae McKinney, 87, of Columbus, died at 9:40 p.m., Saturday, December 17, 2016, at home.

She was born September 20, 1929, the daughter of Lawrence B. and Christena Ogilvie Welmer of Columbus.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbus and, if asked, she would say that her family was her life.

She is survived by her son, Roger McKinney of Columbus; daughters, Connie Baldwin of Columbus and Linda Hacker of Seymour; grandchildren, Krista Tunny of Napoleon, Brent McKinney of Hope, Jason Baldwin, Kindra Parrish and Josh Baldwin, all of Columbus; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Steven McKinney.

The funeral service will be held at noon Thursday at First Baptist Church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive, Columbus, with Dr. Daniel Cash officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church.

Edwin Bryant

North Vernon

Edwin “Shot” Bryant, 74, of North Vernon, died December 17, 2016, at his residence.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. The Rev. Gill Hawkes will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.

In addition to his wife, Beverly, Edwin is survived by his daughter, Anna Leah (David) Cottongim of Plainfield; two sons, David Allen (Amanda) Bryant of Dupont and Chad Edwin Bryant of North Vernon; four brothers, Jim Bryant of Hope, Danny Bryant of North Carolina, Lloyd Bryant of Indianapolis and Ronnie Lee of Elk Cave, Kentucky; three sisters, Mary Broyles of Mitchellsburg, Kentucky, Bobby Carol Howell of Indianapolis and Brenda Dvorak of Bloomington; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
