When the news broke last year that heavy metal band Judas Priest was coming to town for an April concert, I took charge and bought reserved seats up front. When I saw them first in 1984, metal bands didn’t even sell reserved seats. We had to fight for them. That was part of the fun.

Often lost in the ongoing debate over immigration in the United States are the benefits that foreign-born workers bring with them.

There was lots of drama back at the end of March, when Congress — six months behind schedule — finally funded the federal government for the rest of the fiscal year. You may remember some of the highlights: The $1.2 trillion package funded defense, homeland security, and other key agencies (others had gotten their funding a few weeks earlier) and Congress passed it mere hours before a government shutdown.

One of my less than admirable traits is to attempt to categorize and organize everything into its simplest terms. All too often, simple devolves to simplistic as I keep trying to pound an unwilling square peg into an unreceptive round hole.
