Group donates Cough Buddy bears to hospital

The organization Remember Katie Donate Life donated 102 Cough Buddy medical bears to Columbus Regional Hospital.

The bears serve as medical devices that help patients cough, breathe deeply and laugh after undergoing abdominal, chest or open heart surgery. More firm than a normal teddy bear, the Cough Buddy bears have a flat back that serves as a splint to accelerate the healing process.

The Cough Buddy bears were purchased from funds raised from the 2013 and 2014 Katie McBurnett 5K events in Madison. The donation to the hospital comes two months before the first Katie McBurnett 5K in Columbus, planned for May 2 at Mill Race Park.
