2005

Victoria Baker, director of the Cummins Child Development Center, was named Hoosier Educator of the Year by the Indiana Association for the Education of Young Children. She had been the center’s director since its opening in 2001 and previously was director of Kindercare Learning.

1990

Neither driver nor any of the 16 children aboard a Bartholomew Consolidated School bus were hurt after the vehicle slid down an embankment on Carr Hill Road and ended up on its side.

1965

Oswald Jacoby and his son, James Jacoby, both of Columbus, writers of a bridge column for The Evening Republican and Newspaper Enterprise Association, won the Vanderbilt Cup, the top bridge prize in the country, in a national tournament sponsored by the American Contract Bridge League. Oswald was officially recognized as the nation’s No. 1 bridge champion with an official point count of more than 8,500.
