Virginia B. Crawford, 89, of Elm Street, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015, at her home.

Virginia was born August 25, 1925, in Urbana, Illinois, the daughter of Jay and Thelma Estelle (Moore) Boyd. She married H. Dean Crawford.

Salutatorian of her high school class in 1943, she went on to graduate from St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, Illinois, in September 1946.

She attended Columbus Free Methodist Church and was a member of National Industrial Nurse Association and the American Red Cross.

Virginia enjoyed crafting for her family and was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and a fan of science fiction and cinema. She also loved babysitting for her great-grandson.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2015, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Gilroy officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Friday. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, Illinois, at 2:30 p.m. CDT Friday.

Survivors include her son, Richard (Sandra) Crawford of Columbus; a daughter, Jayne (Larry Hill) Crawford of Monroe, Georgia; a sister, Opal Christie of Champaign, Illinois; grandchildren, Alexis (Jordan) Roberts and Logan (Valerie) Crawford, all of Columbus; and one great-grandchild, Sammy Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Irene Johnson.
