Coached by social studies department chairman Greg Lewis, the Columbus East Fine Arts Academic Team successfully defended its title, beating six other Class I Indiana schools to claim the 2005 Indiana Academic Super Bowl State Finals. East’s social studies team, coached by Jim Nay, placed second of six teams in the same division.

1990

David Mann, a 12-year veteran of Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, won a three-way Republican race for the right to battle incumbent Sheriff Rick Hill in November.

1965

Bartholomew County Chapter of the American Red Cross announced Columbus area foundations, company employees and individual families gave $14,039 to a special relief fund for people affected by the tornado disaster area in north-central Indiana.
