Ron Shadley was presented with the National Historic Preservation Award by Jane Johnson of the Joseph Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for his efforts to have grave markers at Sand Hill Cemetery repaired. Shadley established the Friends of the Sand Hill Cemetery fund, which raised money for the project.

1999

Vanessa Small, a student at Richards Elementary School, was the first place third-grade winner for WTIU’s Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. She was recognized at a celebration at Borders Books and Music in Bloomington, where she read her story and received prizes.

1974

Columbus East and North high school bands, as well as those representing Central, Northside and Southside junior high schools, won first place in their divisions in competitions in Indianapolis, Madison and Shelbyville.
