Looking Back – April 19

The women were all from the bookkeeping division of the Bartholomew County Welfare Department and said they just wanted to be “the first to have a picnic” at the new Commons facilities.

Hoosier first lady Karen Pence handed out dozens of handmade “Dear Soldier” cards to troops at Ramstein Air Base in Germany and to wounded service members recovering at the nearby Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.

1999

In recognition of Mary Evelyn Guinn’s volunteer work, Senior Services Center named the Elizabethtown resident County Senior of 1998 at Senior Expo. Although she was involved in several organizations, she devoted the most time to the food bank at Love Chapel.

1974

The combined Columbus North, Columbus East and Brown County high school Vocational-Industrial Arts Clubs of America (VICA) headed to Indianapolis’ Arsenal Technical High School for a state competition. High school students from throughout the state tested their abilities in 21 skill areas, eight leadership development areas and four project areas.
